There is a good choice of restaurants and sometimes there is a choice between Indian and Western style food. If you are a vegetarian, South India is an ideal destination. Lunches on riding days are usually taken in local roadside cafes. Tea and soft drinks are very cheap. A (large!) bottle of beer is approximately £3 (approx. US$5), but alcohol is difficult to get hold of in Kerala. Please note that service in restaurants can be quite slow. Water is provided in the support vehicle, where you can fill your bottle from the 20 litre containers.

      De lichtste fietsvakantie. Over grotendeels vlak terrein, met niet al te lange dag-afstanden (gemiddeld 50 km). Korte hellingen met hoogteverschillen tot ongeveer 100 meter komen voor.

      Lichte fietsvakantie. Niet te steile en niet te lange hellingen, over goed begaanbare wegen. De dag afstanden zijn soms wat langer, tot ongeveer 65 km per dag.

      Iets sportievere fietsvakantie. Zo af en toe langere en steilere hellingen zonder dat deze overheersen. De dag-afstanden zijn gemiddeld 70 km. Een normale conditie volstaat.

      Tochten met een sportief karakter. De hellingen zijn steiler en langer dan die van de voorgaande categorieën en vragen derhalve meer kracht. Het landschap heeft een bergachtig karakter. Dag afstanden tot ongeveer 80 km. Geschikt voor iedereen die regelmatig langere afstanden fietst.

      Tochten met een zeer sportief karakter. Fietsen in pittig heuvellandschap of zelfs bergen met veelal een wat langere afstand. Dag afstanden variëren van 70 tot 100 km. Een goede fysieke conditie en enig uithoudingsvermogen zijn vereist.

    • Alle omschrijvingen zijn globale omschrijvingen. Elke reis wordt gewogen naar de lengte van de etappes, klimaat, de moeilijkheid van het terrein en het hoogteverschil. Persoonlijke factoren als conditie, ervaring, leeftijd en gewicht hebben wij bij de indeling in categorieën geen rol kunnen laten spelen.

Route 14 daagse fietsvakantie Cycle Kerala & Tropical India

Beautiful landscapes, fascinating towns, stunning beaches and superb food, southern India is an excellent place to explore by bike. From the cool heights of the Western Ghats, where the sanctuaries hide excellent wildlife, to the quiet backwaters of Kerala, where Hinduism has produced elaborately decorated temples, this trip offers the chance to cycle through colourful villages where rural life has remained little-changed for centuries. The final coastal ride to Varkala rewards us with time to relax on the beach and reflect on an unforgettable experience.

  1. Dag 1 - Start Mysore.
  2. Dag 2 - Ride to Srirangapatnam ruins; return to Mysore; afternoon explore the city including the Maharaja Palace.
  3. Dag 3 - Cycle on the back roads of Mysore Plateau to Nanjangud; transfer to Bandipur N.P.
  4. Dag 4 - Ride to Mudumalai N.P; explore 'Wild Haven'
  5. Dag 5 - Optional ascent to Ooty Hillstation (13km climb), former summer capital of the Raj; free afternoon to explore the town.
  6. Dag 6 - Western Ghats descent through tea plantations; transfer to Guruvayoor in tropical Kerala.
  7. Dag 7 - Morning ride to Guruvayoor Temple and Palayoor Church; continue along country roads to our beachside hotel in Cherai.
  8. Dag 8 - Cycle along coastal roads lined with coconut palms; ferry to Fort Cochin.
  9. Dag 9 - Free day in Cochin to explore the bazaars and the old harbour.
  10. Dag 10 - Cycle past old Portuguese houses; continue to Vambanad Lake and Muhamma.
  11. Dag 11 - Explore Muhamma town before backwater boat trip; overnight on lovely Keralan houseboat.
  12. Dag 12 - Cliff-top ride to laid-back Varkala.
  13. Dag 13 - Free to relax on the beach and eat the wonderful seafood.
  14. Dag 14 - End Varkala.
