    CYCLING IN SARDINIA

A perfect trip, with empty roads, fantastic guide and van support (Michele and Roberto), beautiful island and incredible food!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The most inspirational moment in our trip was watching the sunset and having a glass of wine with some of my best friends!

What did you think of your group leader?

Michele was really amazing. We were travelling in a group of 13  friends, and he could manage to organize us all. We lost our flight on the first day, and he arraged, together with Roberto, our change in transfers, and adapted our route perfectly.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I strongly recommend this trip. I have done a Provence and a Alentejo trip before, but this one was, by far, the best.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The experience in the small hotels and agriturismo was also amazing, since the people who work in these small places, were really friendly and helpful.

    CYCLING IN SARDINIA

A great trip, with a great bunch of people, and a great guide and support driver.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Lovely beaches Good cycling Interesting culture Great weather Unspoilt scenery

What did you think of your group leader?

Great - he never forgot that it was our holiday.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I've heard that the island is too hot and too crowded in August.  Our trip in early October was perfect.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just a big thank-you to all my fellow travellers for making it such an enjoyable week.

    CYCLING IN SARDINIA

If you like the challenge of hills, fantastic scenery, clear pristine beaches, lovely villages and flamingoes then this is the trip for you.  If you are more serious about being competitive and King of the mountain, then it's not strenuous enough over the whole week.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Getting to the top of the biggest hill, sweaty and breathing like an old cow, but still on my bike, when other people had given up and walked. A great personal achievement! But a great moment as everyone who made it enouraged all the group to do their best.

What did you think of your group leader?

Michele was a great guy and led us well but this trip was absolutely a double act. Theirs was a complete team effort and Enrico was far more than just the bike support. They both worked really hard to make our holiday the success it was. They had endless patience and good humour at all times and both made the trip really special.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be prepared for the hills at the start of the week, but don't be put off, they calm down towards the later stages. The hybrid  bikes are good, but don't have any cages on the pedals - you definitely need to take your own pedals to ensure that you have good grip up the hills

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We like trying the new Exodus holidays and this certainly was a lovely one to experience. Perfect time of year to do it as you have time and space to explore and appreciate.  We were exceedingly lucky with the weather, this is not normal to have no wind and no rain and perfect blue skies.

    CYCLING IN SARDINIA

Absolutely one of the best holidays I have ever been on!  I really enjoyed the cycling, the scenery, the challange, and the company.  The hotels were far nicer than I had expected.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

What did you think of your group leader?

Our group leader, Michaele and his partner Enrico were fantastic.  Really supportive and helpful.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I think we were really lucky with the weather.  I would choose my destination and potential weather more carefully in the future as if it had been rainy and windy I think the trip would have been a bit grim with a lot of hanging around.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

There were a number of people who were experienced cyclists, this trip was their 7th or 8th cycling holiday.  This was my first and I felt that there could have been a little more instruction on how to ride a bike safely in terms of the down hill stretchs, which were at times quite steep.  I think some guidance as to the line to take and the technique needed would have been helpful.

    CYCLING IN SARDINIA

A fantastic trip - great organisation, lovely route with stunning scenery, and nicely relaxed riding. A really good group too.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing the wonderful coastal scenery from the bike (and getting to the top of the hills, especially on the days where we had a strong head-wind!)

What did you think of your group leader?

Michele was great - very knowledgeable & nothing was too much trouble. He was also a very good laugh! Good support from Enrico too, especially organising a very nice beach picnic!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Padded cycle shorts a must. I took my gel saddle cover but it didn't fit the hire bikes. Not TOO painful though...

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just go for it & keep your fingers crossed for good weather - ours was a bit variable!

    CYCLING IN SARDINIA

Sardinia itself is very unspoilt and the people could not have been more friendly or accommodating. Our guide and support were enthusiastic, attentive and made sure that everyone had a great time.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Probably watching the sunset from a clifftop bar with a beer and a pizza.

What did you think of your group leader?

Our group leader, Michele, was an absolute star. He had a great sense of humour and worked really hard to make sure everyone got what they wanted out of the trip. Nothing was too much trouble.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Some of the routes involve riding along cliff edges, all with barriers and perfectly safe but if you don't like heights this might not be for you.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Food was fantastic and we had a great group to share the experience with - the only thing that wasn't perfect was the weather!

    Excellent

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Yes, go for it

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    Sardinia was challenging at timesGx

    cycling in Sardinia

Well now, this was a superb cycling trip. I for one am looking forward to the next Italy outing with Exodus.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Stunning scenery along the varied route. It inspired (!) you most of the time.

What did you think of your group leader?

Michele and Giovanni worked all hours to ensure an enjoyable time for all the group...... and seemed to enjoy themselves also. Exodus should keep these two at all costs. The diverse ages (~30 - 81) of the group didn't matter at all. In particular the ladies of the group were all helpful and charming.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Early June is a good time to go. Empty roads and not too hot weather. The Exodus advice to cycle regularly is worth following; Sardinian roads have their ups and downs. We ate well in restaurants, bars, picnics, elevenses with the backup bus. And the geletaria !

Is there anything else you would like to add?

As a veteran of the group I can recommend Sardinia cycling unreservedly

7 Days of Fun and Sun

A great group, a fantastic tour leader and support guide, breath-taking scenery, and interesting cycling..... this was almost the perfect cycling trip. The accommodation and food was also first-class. South-west Sardinia was a real surprise. Coming from Australia I was not expecting to find a place in Europe that felt so much like home. This was my third Exodus cycling tour in Italy and definitely the best.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

There were so many great moments.... the colour of the water, the white sandy beaches, the rolling hills and gum trees (reminded me so much of Australia!). But the thing that sticks in my mind was swimming in the sea at the bottom of the cliff upon which our hotel was located in Nebida and later having dinner watching the sun sink into the Mediterranean Sea. It was quite stunning.

What did you think of your group leader?

Michele was a key reason I returned to Italy this year to do this tour - he is a really nice guy. After travelling with him in 2015 the opportunity to travel with him again in Sardinia was a no-brainer. Michele gave 110% for the entire tour and often did things (such as early morning "extra" rides before breakfast) that were above and beyond the call of duty. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Michele. Ado, Michele's assistant, was also fantastic. He really made everyone feel welcome and was very efficient doing all the van, bike, luggage and drink tasks. Ado's warm friendly nature just made the trip so much fun. We were really fortunate to have Michele and Ado as our tour leaders on this trip.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The riding on days 2 and 3 was quite challenging (I ride a road bike regularly). There are a few long hill climbs that will test your fitness especially if you're not used to warm Mediterranean weather. So I would recommend you do a bit of training before doing the trip if you're not used to riding big hills.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I've told several of my Aussie friends about this trip and how great it was. If they decided to do it next year, I would have no hesitation to go with them and do it again!

Stunning coastal scenery in remote Sardinia

This was my first exodus trip and as I usually travel independently I was unsure what to expect. The group was large at 16 but all lovely and all super fit! I got used to being at the back but don't worry, someone has to be there.....The food was excellent due to local knowledge on where to go etc. this is the first cycle trip where I have put on weight!. All extremely well organised, well paced and we swam every day at gorgeous beaches. I was shocked how hot it was in October. Some BIG hills to be done, train hard!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Swimming at a stunning remote beach near Calaforte in crystal clear water and no tourists.

What did you think of your group leader?

The leader Michele was outstanding in every respect: kind, patient, knowledgeable and funny! He genuinely cared for everyone and allowed flexibility eg the super fast pack could go ahead and I was allowed to stop for photos etc at the back.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Bring sunscreen, hat and mosquito repellant (even for dry Sardinia) and sarong for the beach. A gel seat really helps with pressure areas and I am sure that clip on shoes help up the hills Train as much as possible!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The Archeological museum in Cagliari was very interesting on the last day. A nice town to wander around.

    Fantastic trip

This was a fabulous trip with a great group of people and two excellent guides. The island is stunning and whilst the cycling is challenging at times , the downhill parts and the undulating terrain made the whole experience really enjoyable. This is our fifth trip with Exodus ( first cycling one) and they seem to get better and better - using local guides has really made a difference as their passion for the area really comes through. We'd recommend this trip to anyone.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Long descent, into a hidden valley with poppies in field then turned a corner to see turquoise sea in front of us.. just stunning.

What did you think of your group leader?

Giovanni and Michele were fantastic - both excellent cyclists and their care and attention was exceptional. They made sure that everyone got something from the rides. They took time to explain about the area, the customs, the food as well as making sure that every ride was enjoyable. The evenings were always entertaining and the meals that they organised for us were wonderful.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

You do need to have some miles in your legs before going and being used to hills would be a distinct advantage but that said, you cycle fitter by the end of the week! Also.. pack light, it's a different hotel every night so you are living out of your suitcase.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Sardinia is a stunning island, the sea is breathtakingly turquoise and the sands are white or golden. The food is wonderful, the guides excellent and the rides are stimulating.. if you are considering this trip then sign up for it, you won't be disappointed.

Cycling around the island of Sardinia

Good cycling around the island. A couple of the days are a bit tough, but you can always get in the bus if you don't fancy it.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    Completing the tough climbs.

What did you think of your group leader?

    Leaders were very friendly.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The choice of places to eat seemed very limited. Quite often you are in a hotel in the middle of nowhere and have only the hotel restaurant to eat in. The quality of the food was not great and it was very expensive.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    Biking Sardainia

Biking Sardainia is a moderate challenge if you bike regularly. The countryside and the view points are gorgeous. The beaches in May are empty and the water cool but ideal for a refreshing swim. I had the best spaghetti and pizza of my life! Viva Sadainia.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Climbing in a very hot temperature an 8 km steady steep hill...the most difficult moments are always the most inspirational ones. J'aime les parcours qui offrent des defis...et les montées sont parfois difficiles en Sardaigne. MIs c'est ce qui rend le voyage inoubliable.

What did you think of your group leader?

We had to guides with totLly different styles...and that was great because we could relate to one of them depending on our spirit of the day.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Biking or taking spinning classes is a must to fully enjoy this trip. And don't forget your bathing suit...the beaches are exceptionnal.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Fantastic Sardinia June 2016 Guided Cycling tour

An excellent, well organised trip, with stunningly beautiful coastal rides and some challenging climbs, a great group of people where all got on very well , excellent tour guide Michele and fantastic support from Ado,

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Encouragement from our guide Michele as he encouraged, motivated and supported us in some quite difficult climbs. And the safety and relief in knowing that reliable Ado in the support vehicle would be there to help you and take care of you, if you needed it!

What did you think of your group leader?

Our Group leader Michele was encouraging, informative, professional, fun, spoke excellent English, had a great sense of humour, and was very supportive to all the group. Michele was supported by Ado Sanna, who was friendly, extremely helpful, generous, kind and he looked after everybody well, particularly on the more challenging elements of the tour. Nothing was too much trouble for these guys and we were thoroughly looked after. They made our holiday the more enjoyable.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This is a great tour. It is graded as moderate. I would say that days 2 and 3 are challenging in the heat and need a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    I'd really recommend this trip.

Cycling in Sardinia: 5th to 12th September 2015

A really enjoyable and varied cycling trip which took us through the beautiful coastline, countryside and history of south west Sardinia with a friendly group and fantastic guides. Thoroughly recommended.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

On our second day of cycling - as we headed inland after lunch - I was struck by the almost complete silence around me (I could only hear the noise of the bike tyres on the road). Together with the beautiful countryside around me it made for a really memorable moment. Having expected some quite busy coastal roads, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet most that we rode were. Other inspirational moments included the sweeping descent from the Agriturismo, any one of winding the roads along the green-fringed coast passing alongside white sandy beaches, and beautiful warm blue sea.

What did you think of your group leader?

Our leaders Michele and Giovanni were really great. They were friendly and knowledgeable, worked hard and really looked after us. They took turns in leading and driving and both clearly explained each day's itinerary. They provided water and snacks and delicious fruit to keep us going along the way and explained any meal choices and had a great knowledge of the island and its history.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The usual: cycling shorts, gloves, sunglasses and a raincoat (in case of that unexpected wet weather or cool descent - we had a short spell of torrential rain one day when we all needed our coats). Always have water with you - not all trips are as well-provided with water and snacks as this one was. I generally take a small first aid kit and mobile phone - in case of emergencies.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Cycling in Sardinia exceeded my expectations. The cycling there is fantastic and the countryside is beautiful. In addition the food (and wine) was consistently good (I enjoyed all the meals - especially at he Agriturismo and the Pizzeria in Calasetta) and the people are friendly. The capital Cagliari - if you get the opportunity to look around (as we did on the last day) - is well worth walking around. I'd thoroughly recommend climbing up either the Torre Ellefante or the Torre San Pancrazio (we went to the top of the latter) - the views are amazing. Although the amount of cycling was appropriate for the grade of trip, I would have welcomed more cycling on the day we travelled to the islands of San Pietro and Sant' Antioco - although I appreciate there were ferry crossings to plan into the day. Other days where there was more cycling made up for this. We cycled past the terrace of an interesting-looking cafe in Nebida (where we detoured to look down at the Pan di Zucchero rock) and then struggled to find a nice cafe Gonnesa where we were staying that night. This might be a good mid-afternoon coffee stop for future groups - if it could be included.

    Madeleine

This is a fantastic, well organised trip. If you enjoy cycling and don't mind putting in some effort to get up a few tricky hills, you will be rewarded with beautiful scenery and lovely food. We had a mixed group of cyclists, some of whom were doing their first cycling holiday and I think everyone enjoyed it. The organisation and encouragement of our tour leader Michele Q and his assistant Ado helped to make this a really memorable trip.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Cycling along the coastal roads of the Costa del Sud on day 7 was superb, so many beautiful views at every turn. Cycling down to the village of Nebida after a challenging climb on day 4, the lovely views, and a rewarding swim in crystal clear waters made it worthwhile!

What did you think of your group leader?

Michele Q was very professional and his English and knowledge of the area is superb. He obviously loves what he does and was great at keeping us all motivated, even on the tougher climbs. He even added extra hill climbs for those wanting to put in some extra miles! He and Ado (our support driver and provider of some very welcome refreshments) made a great team, both were fun, friendly and keen to ensure that everyone enjoyed their holiday.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

You do need some level of fitness to enjoy this trip but don't be put off by the reference to hilly climbs, it's really only on days 2 and 3 and it isn't continuous. The scenery (and ice cream!) will make it well worth the effort.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

If you go on this trip you won't be disappointed.
