    Versciaco level 2

Great accommodation, good ski conditions, snow could have been better, but we don't control the weather.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    Skiing over 2000 meters.

What did you think of your group leader?

He did a good job finding places with good snow.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This was a level 2 course. Keep that in mind. In our group some people had level 0.9 :-(

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    skating in the dolomites

Lack of snow when we arrived but snow most days meant we were able to ski in a range of areas. Skating is more difficult than it looks, but by the end of the week we had all made some progress thanks to our Leader Alex's patient instruction.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The route from Dobbiaco to Niederdorf in the sunshine with no-one but our group to take in the wonderful scenery. The last day back from Cortina was pretty good as well.

What did you think of your group leader?

Alex tried hard to teach us the finer points of the skating technique and he was very patient with our slow progress. He knew the area well and found good places to stop for lunch.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Get in shape before you go. Do ski related exercise as the fitter you are the more you will enjoy the week.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The hotel meals were excellent and the staff very friendly but it is a shame you have to rely on trains or buses to get to and from the ski area. A hotel in Innishen or Dobbiacco would be more suitable.

    CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: VERSCIACO SKATING COURSE

The group of 12 was a good size - good company, good people. The hotel was great - small, comfortable, but well equipped - worked well. Learning skate skiing is no doddle (I'd been training for months but still pretty stretched the first few days - though the ice didn't help) but Eric and Heather were imaginative teachers, alternately and appropriately encouraging and laughing with us: and once I got it - Thursday! - it was just as lovely as it looks and I was entranced and will do it again.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

skiing fast and rhythmically across a sunny meadow - sounds like nothing but with a 6-inch bruise cross the whole of my R buttock there were moment early on when I wasn't sure I would get to that.

What did you think of your group leader?

Eric & Heather work very well together and have huge experience both of the technique and of helping neophytes to master it despite age and infirmity, and they are good at facilitating a group to work effectively. They know a lot about skiing and places to ski, and are good-natured and generous people - if slightly bemused why a 56 year old professional might cavil at being referred to as a girl...

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    1. Training helps you do the impossible - ski uphill - which does take a bit of strength 2. feel free to come alone, most of us did and I felt it worked fine

    CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: VERSCIACO SKATING COURSE

A fantastic week learning to skate cross country. Eric Wooley was a fantastic leader, teacher and host. The best holiday I've had for a while. The Helm hotel is next to none, comfy, friendly and relaxing and Martin the owner made us all feel very welcome.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Learning to Ski/Skate up hill!! Having got to grips with how to skate the feeling of gliding through the snow, through beautiful scenery is so exhilerating

What did you think of your group leader?

What can I say? - Eric Wooley is  Brilliant, The best, Good Fun, Great Teacher, Fantastic Host, Great sense of humour!!! And not to forget his wife Heather who was always there with words and tips to encourage. Two great people who are a real assett to Exodus - Treasure them.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

If you can cross country ski and you would like to learn to skate this is the holiday for you. Book now!!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just to say thanks again to Eric and Heather for such a fantastic holiday.

    CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: VERSCIACO SKATING COURSE

Brilliant instruction! Great hotel! Wonderful location! This holiday is a must for anyone wanting to learn to skate or just wanting to brush up on their skating technique.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Skiiing in the Toblach (Dobbiaco) Stadium and on parts of the same trails used in the Tour de Ski just a couple of weeks earlier.

What did you think of your group leader?

Eric was fantastic - a better teacher one couldn't find.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This location is a world class cross country ski area centred on the Stadium in Toblach / Dobbiaco, and is well worth a visit.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to add a  personal thank you to Eric & Heather for all their help, patience and encouragement.

    CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: VERSCIACO SKATING COURSE

Toblach/ Dobbiaco is a world renowned cross country ski centre and its “Nordic Arena” stadium is the best place to take your first steps. But nobody has to stay in the stadium, as there are plenty of circuits for all abilities. The scenery is amazing due to the mountain pinnacles, reddish rock faces and ridges of the Dolomites, a Unesco World Heritage site since 2009. And if that is not enough, good snow conditions are guaranteed, as the local artificial snow making facilities are eco-friendly and at the forefront of technology.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The disused railway from Paso Cimabianche to Cortina D’Ampezzo offers some of the most impressive views I have ever seen. Although seasoned cross skiers can ski all the way from Tobblach/Dobbiaco up to the Paso Cimabianche and from there down to Cortina D’Ampezzo most people take the bus to the highest point and only ski the downhill part. It is an easy track that will take you through a few tunnels and ends in the stadium of Cortina, from where you can take the bus back.

What did you think of your group leader?

Our leader was remarkable.  Not only did he give each of us personalised instruction, but he kept encouraging us patiently and with good humour. We quickly felt like a group of old friends, and we progressed more than we had hoped for.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Cross country skiing is one of the hardest endurance sports, but you can make it as strenuous or as easy as you want and Hochpustertal offers plenty of possibilities for everybody.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Big bruises and achy legs are best treated with “Apfelstrudel” and “Jagertee”.

    CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: VERSCIACO SKATING COURSE

A fabulous holiday with a brilliant instructor, lots of fun, amazing scenery, great skiing tracks and a fantastic hotel (especially the spa with mountain views for relaxing tired muscles after a day of hard work).  For me learning to skate was challenging but brilliantly rewarding.  Thank you Eric.
