Shaun (Bolton)

This holiday is a real challenge in more way than one & it will sometimes take you out of your comfort zone; but don't let that put you off. The scenery is breath taking & so are the walks.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The sense of achievement at the end and also witnessing the best sun rises & sun sets I've ever seen.

What did you think of your group leader?

The guides are very good and look after you all the way.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The days are long (between 8 & 9 hrs per day) carrying a rucksack that will contain more than it would normally hold on a one day walk so being used to carrying a 10kg+ weight for 5 days continually needs preparing for. Don't underestimate it and you'll love it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I've done many walks with exodus over the last 12 years and this is up there with the best

    Julian Alps

Summer in the Julian Alps is beautiful - fantastic scenery, wildlife and flowers. Great walking and fun scramble up Triglav. The refreshing introduction to Radler and the supply of pancakes made up for the understandable lack of ice cream in the huts!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Ascent of Triglav, sunshine, good company

What did you think of your group leader?

Very attentive leaders and certainly very effective at bagging us tables at dinner time in the busy Triglav hut

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Worth trying the mountain tea but if you're a committed English Breakfast tea drinker, take a few teabags!

    Getting Slovenian

The Slovenians say that once you make it to the top of Mount Triglav, you're considered a Slovenian - this is the hard and rewarding way for a Slovenian passport.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Finding itself at slightly over 2,800 metres, the altitude of Mount Triglav is maybe not considered very highly, however that is only a number. Getting from the mountain hut to Mount Triglav is challenging, at most times more than higher summits. Like a book, it's not the number of pages that makes it a classic, it's the plot and characters. And the view from the summit is far reaching and rewarding.

What did you think of your group leader?

The group leader led by example and was available for us. It was easy to realise how much he loves the mountains and the National Park.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Being in the mountains is not just about walking through the day from one hut to another. It's about a different way of life for a week or so. At times in the mountain huts, you realise how much you take for granted the day-to-day necessities such as water and a single bed. Showers are at a premium and bottled water in the huts is not cheap.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

While getting to Mount Triglav feels like the main scope of the trip, the journey in itself is also a pleasure. At times you;re mesmerised by the barren rocks in the mountains, where rocks dominate at other times, you're smitten by the green surroundings of the valleys.

    JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE

A well organised trip with knowledgeable guides and spectacular scenery.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The ascent of Triglav was a brilliant day. The panoramic views from the top were impressive and made the trip worth it.

What did you think of your group leader?

The two group leaders were brilliant. Incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their country. They had our safety in mind as their priority as well as making sure people were enjoying the trip overall. Couldn't have asked for better.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Great trip. Would recommend it.

    SLOVENIA: JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE

A fantastic if a little challenging holiday, the scenery is worth every effort.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

What did you think of your group leader?

The leaders were great, really knowledgeable and understanding. We did the climb to Triglav because of their research on the weather conditions, if we had waited another day it would have been a trip without the summit

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be ready for the heat if you are going in the summer. There is lots to do around Bled so organise something for the last day; we had a lot of off time.

    SLOVENIA: JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE

A really great trip with rewarding views if the weather is good. Although there is a fair bit of uphill, the reward was definately worth it!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Standing on the summit of Mount Triglav looking around the mountains and celebrating the achievement with the rest of the group.

What did you think of your group leader?

David and Palona were great leaders who looked after us and always put the safety of the group first. It was a real pleasure to walk with them.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Yes, the meals in the mountain huts are as the brochure advertised - wholesome but not too fancy. I'd advise anyone on the trip to take some Worcester or Tabasco sause to liven the goulash, barley soup or pasta dishes up a bit!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

That was a great holiday and although some of the ascents were hard (due to the heat and the 50L rucksack) it was well worth the effort. I'd advise anyone wanting to do this trip to train for it by doing a few hills in advance. The C/D rating was accurate.

    SLOVENIA: JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE

    An inspirational and challenging trip

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Running down the scree the day before the ascent on Triglav and coming down off Triglav: Scary, but stunning.

What did you think of your group leader?

David was a lot of fun. He added a lot to the trip. He was clearly popular with the staff in the huts, too...

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Pack light! Ruthlessly llight for the hut-to-hut days. Some sections are genuinely demanding. Scary, too. You need a good head for heights, and not just on summit day.Wet wipes were my best friend. I used about 20 of them. No hot water for periods, and no water to speak of at two places.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Astonishing scenery, and, for me, a genuine challenge. Carrying the weight on your back makes it that much more difficult. Don't let the obscurity of the destination put you off. Some of the huts were extremely basic in terms of washing facilities, but overall the network is excellent.

    SLOVENIA: JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE

An excellent trip with great scenery, scary moments, great leaders and a lovely group of people.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Coming down from Triglav. I was so scared but never doubted once that my guide would get me down safely. Then when I looked back at where I had been I really could not believe that I had done it!!

What did you think of your group leader?

The group leaders were excellent. They really looked after us especially on the narrow ridges across the via ferrata making sure we were safe and felt secure at all times. They were also very entertaining and joined in with the social times too.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There are some scary parts to this trip so if you are afraid of narrow ridges with steep drops, then think again. Also as you are carrying your pack you really only need the bare minimum of clothing etc. It was amazing what we all left out of our packs on that first day!!

    SLOVENIA: JULIAN ALPS TRAVERSE

Love the high alpine traversing. The guides were fantastic. The scenery was breathtaking. The trails were not crowded. The high alpine lakes were gorgeous.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I felt a great sense of achievement when we reached the summit of Triglav.

What did you think of your group leader?

Both group leaders were great. They went above and beyond what they were required to do. They also hired a third guide for summit day. The guides really enhanced our enjoyment of the entire journey.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Realize the accomodations are bunk / dorm. You can ask for an upgrade and pay some additional $$ at some of the lodges if you need a good night's sleep. The food at the huts was basic and bland. There were few vegetarian options. Stay a few days in Lubjiana either at the beginning or the end of the trip. It is a great place to explore and you don't get to see it during this trip.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Not for beginner or unfit hikers! There are lots of steep drop offs, and not just on summit day. A good sense of balance with your day pack on your back is required. Also, be prepared for the weather to change quickly at altitude...........and there is no shelter on those high altitude trails. But the scenic rewards are worth it!

    A great trip

Having been on a fair few Exodus trips this was the best so far and the thing that made the icing on the cake was our guides Bugy and David. They really went above and beyond, not only looking after us but, when my wife and I needed to put in a small "change" to the planned itinerary, they really made it great for us, beyond what we had even asked for, such that the week as a whole was truly awesome!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Slovenia is brilliant a real undiscovered gem

What did you think of your group leader?

Bugy and David were both brilliant, funny, caring, entertaining, knowledgable and friendly, what more could you ask for!!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Go on this trip. It's hard but well worth it

    Julian Alps traverse

From a fantastic hotel in beautiful lake bled to a challenging hut to hut hike in the Julian alps, this was exactly the vacation I was looking for!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The via ferrata up and down triglav, it was beautiful, fun and fantastic!

What did you think of your group leader?

Bugy and Alesh were funny, fun and really informed about all parts of Slovenian culture and history.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I had a perfect amount of time in bled, but wished I'd been able to spend some time in Ljubljuana as well. So maybe plan for that.
