Food

  • All breakfasts, 6 lunches and 5 dinners included. Typical Meals: Breakfast: typically comprising a selection of tea, coffee, bread, butter, jam, cheese, olives, cucumber, tomatoes and yoghurt. Picnic lunches on trek: typically comprise a selection of bread, cold meat, cheese, (sometimes boiled eggs or tinned fish), fresh salad vegetables, juice and chocolate. Dinners on trek: most people find that Turkish cuisine is one of the most varied in the world and there is usually something to please everyone. Vegetarians will generally find themselves well catered for as many Turkish dishes are based on vegetables and dairy products. Other than on trek, drinks are not included with meals (except breakfast) as a wide variety is normally available and this allows you greater choice. On the trek, hot drinks are included but soft drinks, beer and wine are not, although they may be on sale. Mineral water, excellent fruit juices, beer and wine are generally readily available at about half to three-quarters of the UK price, depending on locality. Tea (usually taken in small glasses) is cheap, and so is Turkish coffee (strong, taken in small cups). The only drinks that can be more expensive are European instant coffee and spirits.

Ascend the Emli Valley and trek to the high pastures of Eznevit Yaylasi.

Leaving our camp behind we will ascend the Emli valley and then climb again up to the high pastures of the Eznevit Yaylasi (2538m). Here we may be lucky enough to encounter the semi-nomadic tribes that roam in this area and graze their flocks. After lunch we will gradually begin our descent to our campsite at Sokulupinar (2000m). This evening a night fire will be arranged for you to enjoy under the stars, so it may be worth picking up some marshmallows before you leave the UK for toasting this evening. Free day for optional walks in the area or a chance to ascend Mount Embler at 3723m.

Today has been left free for you to enjoy the scenery and the unique setting, or for optional walks in the area. Perhaps most enticing will be the opportunity to ascend Mount Embler, sometimes called Engin Tepe. At 3723m it is the highest point we will reach during the course of the week. The climb is not technical but it does demand some scrambling which can be strenuous. The round trip will take around 4-5 hours. From the top you will be rewarded with a magnificent vista towards the southern face of Mount Demirkazik. Tonight we will be back at our camp in Yedigoller for a final night to enjoy this spectacular area. Optional Walk: Distance 7 km Ascent 703m Descent 703m Max Altitude 3723m Time: 4 or 5 hours Accommodation: Full-service Camping

Trek to Karagol Lake where the brave can enjoy a well earned swim.

Our morning will begin with a trek towards Karagol Lake. Here the hardy can enjoy a well-earned swim, or at least a dip of the toes to soothe tired feet. In July the area abounds in fritillaries with their colourful and delicate lampshade-like blooms and the bold bluey-purple of grape hyacinths. These delicate wildflowers are a reflection of the unspoilt nature of these mountains. Our grand traverse of the Taurus will end in a descent into Demirkazik village. We will then transfer to Kayseri for our last night. Walk: Distance 14 km Ascent 1200m Descent 1200 m Max Altitude 2800 m Time: 6 hours Accommodation: Atalay hotel or similar
