  • In the itinerary we state which meals are included on which day: 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches and 5 dinners are included in this trip. The evening meals will either be taken at the hotels or at local restaurants. Please note that should there be any change in the flight schedules additional meals are not included. Please note also that no refund will be given for meals not taken.

Route 8 daagse rondreis High Peaks of Bulgaria

South-western Bulgaria is dominated by two dramatic mountain ranges, the Pirin and the equally imposing Rila. We begin in the Pirin Mountains, trekking across glacial moraines and high passes, and attempting an ascent of Mt Vihren. Moving on to the Rila Mountains, we visit the Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We then cross the mountain range, through ancient forests to the glacial lakes for which these mountains are famed. We conclude by summiting Musala, the highest peak in south-eastern Europe, before returning to Sofia.

  1. Dag 1 - Start Bansko.
  2. Dag 2 - Two daywalks in the Pirin Mountains, including an ascent of Mt Vihren (2914m).
  3. Dag 3 - Second day walk in Pirin Mountains
  4. Dag 4 - Vist UNESCO Rila Monastery
  5. Dag 5 - Hike across the Rila Mountains to the Malyovista region.
  6. Dag 6 - Ascent of Mt. Malyovitsa (2729m).
  7. Dag 7 - Ascent of Mt Musala (2925m); transfer to Sofia.
  8. Dag 8 - End Sofia.
