    Trails of the Garden Route, South Africa

    First trip south of the equator and such a varied and intense experience of South Africa. What a wonderful country with friendly people, beautiful landscapes and magnificent animals.

    What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

    Each stage was inspirational but to summarise - the beach trek of the Alexandria trail, seeing the elephants in Addo Park, climbing Twelve O'clock Peak, climbing Table Mountain, seeing whales, reaching the Cape of Good Hope (and probably lots of others).

    What did you think of your group leader?

    Excellent. Very outgoing, friendly, helpful, informative and knowledgeable. Joe did so much to make our trip a wonderful experience seeking out wonderful treks, pointing out animals and plants of interest, making sure we were well fed and generally looked after.

    Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Go!

    Is there anything else you would like to add?

    Wonder if the cost could have been reduced slightly and we were amazed at the quality of most of the accommodation - or maybe that's just South Africa standards! Being the first of this particular trip, perhaps a few adjustments to itinerary/timings - as discussed with Joe our guide - but overall everything went very well and we have no complaints at all.

  • All breakfasts, 6 lunches and 6 dinners included. A lot of the food you’ll come across is very similar to what you’ll be used to at home. There will be, however, opportunities to try some local dishes, including some unusual meats such as ostrich or kudu. Spending a lot of time along the coast there is also access to some very good, fresh fish and seafood. One of the nights we will enjoy a traditional braai (barbeque), a quintessential South African meal. Whilst South Africa is very much a meat-eating nation, there are options for vegetarians, though perhaps not as many as you’d be used to at home.
