A well run, well paced trip. Cycling was excellent but there are few flat roads in Morocco! Weather perfect. Accommodation is adequate but one cannot expect more in remote parts of the country. Some places had character. Food generally not great in accommodation but adequate.

Cycling in the Atlas and Anti Atlas Mountains - scenery superb.

Radu was very good - enthusiastic, helpful, knowledgeable etc.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be aware there are few flat roads on this trip. On several days you climb 700 / 900 / 1100m. Longest descent is 1400m, all in one section, which is superb - if you like that sort of thing. Some sections of road have been washed out so there are issues of poor surfaces and loose gravel but generally you are warned in advance and with careful riding we had no problems. Roads are generally very quiet.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

This is a cycling trip so there is little time for sight-seeing. If you have not been to Marrakesh before then an extra day there, including the services of a tour guide for part of the day, would be worth it.

Cycling in glorious landscapes in this amazing country...

What a fabulous trip, exactly what I was looking for. Cycling in the mountains and valley's of Morocco to the coastal towns of Agadir and Essaouira. A great way to see such a variety of landscapes and towns. Radu our guide and our two drivers were superb, professional throughout and could not have been more helpful. Just make sure you take enough warm clothes if you go early February!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Achieving some of the climbs was a personal challenge. However the local people throughout the country were beautiful and welcoming. Seemed so happy to see these crazy people on bikes!

What did you think of your group leader?

Radu was superb. Informative, professional, sociable and with a sense of humour and such patience! He managed the whole group so well and we were all looked after.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This trip was at the beginning of Feb and it was a lot colder than aniticipated, even in the accommodation so do ensure you take enough warm layers. I would also suggest £100 is not enough for the week and £200 is a more accurate figure.

I absolutely loved this trip and cannot recommend it highly enough. Challenging cycling in stunning landscapes but achieveable due to breaks and pacing. To finish cycling in Essaouira was the perfect end to this trip - a beautiful coastal town.

Surprisingly diverse mountain landscapes and the two extremes of Morocco's coastal tourist spots (Agadir and Essaouira).

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Day 7 from Imouzzer towards Essaouira, with a dangerous descent behind us and the road following a palm-fringed river amongst traditional villages. Glorious.

What did you think of your group leader?

Tug was an affable fellow, but unfortunately didn't have much common language with the local 'guides' who did all the driving, lunch preparation and (through their company) the hotel bookings. It did seem a bit odd to have a Brit in charge when the Moroccans were doing all the work.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There are numerous long ascents, but these can easily be tackled by dropping into a low gear and twiddling - none are insurmountable to the moderately fit! I don't normally cycle with a helmet, but was glad I took mine, as some the descents are pretty hairy - made more so by the frequent road works and quantities of gravel on the roads. As a vegetarian I endured some memorably awful meals, surviving on omelettes (the last of which provided a memorable post-holiday bonus).

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Some of the group struggled to obtain hot water in their rooms - and frankly, some of the hotels were basic, rather than 'standard'. 'No frills' might be the fairest description, although the new group hotel in Marrakech was great. Insufficiently frequent doses of Berber Whisky, with or without sugar!

Tiring and beautiful

Breathtaking views...great mix of hills and amazing descents.. lovely places to stay (...a bit too much cycling for me personally but perfect for people who want to go for a bit longer each day and really get tired out!)

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Any women out there.. you do need to cover your shoulders ALL the time (short sleeved t shirt is okay). Wash your hands and be careful where you eat.. almost our whole group all got food poisoning at the end of our trip! This trip was a bit too much cycling for me personally - roughly 9am - 5pm at least almost every day, some days finishing at 6.30 (one day was 4.30 but our trip leader said we'd finished an hour ahead of other groups he'd led) - and it meant there was less time to look around the places we were staying and not much interaction with anyone except in our group. This was a considerable difference in time in the saddle in comparison with my last trip which was only one grade down (3), and also the uphills were much more frequent and harder (although fun!). I missed having a bit more time to look around the places we were staying and just relax. It's is my own fault as, with hindsight, an extra 20kms a day does equate to an extra 2 hours so if i had thought about it beforehand I would have known, but just in case you're like me - be prepared! This trip involves a long time in the saddle, especially if its true that our group was a quick one. But that's a good thing if you want that - the cycling is great, the views are outstanding and the uphills and downhills are well balanced with one another, if you like hills.

Cycling Morocco's great south

Brilliant cycle holiday and 100% recommended. This holiday is very much about cycling through beautiful Moroccan landscapes and eating some very tasty Tagines. Be-warned there really are only two directions to cycle on this trip and that's UP and DOWN!.. the climbs are difficult and challenging even when not listed as so in the trip notes (however there is always the option of getting in a support vehicle if you want to). The descents are AMAZING.. think we clocked up around 60km per hour plus at times. There is very little flat on the whole trip... but every hill was worth it!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Not Inspirational but on day 6 when you have cycled your final BIG hill (not the last hill) there is a long flat road at the top of the mountain, followed by an incredible long descent. This was a great chance to really see and appreciate where you are and what you are doing - really fantastic last cycle day.

Female travelers should know that you need to wear long shorts and have your shoulders covered at all times. This isn't in the trip notes but worth knowing when deciding what to pack.

I thought Richie was a very good group leader - he was very professional and took things like health and safety and bike maintenance seriously but at the same time he was good fun and always upbeat and encouraging.    He had good local knowledge and was always keen to share tips to help the group improve their cycling.   He was very organised so we always knew exactly what was happening each day, what time we had to meet and where etc so the trip ran very smoothly.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

It’s a holiday and not the Tour de France, but you definitely do need a good base level of fitness to complete this trip as there are several climbs.  Being confident that you can control a bike is also important as there are some fast descents with sharp corners. You don't have to be an expert cyclist to enjoy this trip but for your own enjoyment and that of others on the trip I would definitely advise doing some training for this trip and make sure you are realistically fit enough to cycle 70km per day for 6 days otherwise you might struggle or hold other people in the group back. Overall I would say the trip is most suitable for intermediate level cyclists, ie those who cycle a bit at home but are not too serious about it.  I think beginners might struggle (unless they are very fit and confident, in which case they would be ok) and advanced cyclists might find the pace of the group too slow (although they could still enjoy the trip as a relaxing way to explore a new country)   Take some warm clothes as its cold in the mountains, especially at night. If you want to read at night, take a torch as most of the hotels you stay in don't have very powerful lights and its hard to read. The hotel in Marrakech is quite noisy so take ear plugs!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The free day (ie day off cycling) should be spent in Essaouira not Marrakech, because it is a much more relaxing place than Marrakech and also there is the beach which people can relax on if the weather is good or go surfing or do other water sports.   People will probably have time to explore Marrakech a bit on their arrival or departure day. Exodus should definitely have the free day in Essaouira.

On the fourth day of cycling when thinking there was no gas left in the tank by mid afternnon  being encouraged by the leader to carry on and experience what was further on up the road on bike rather than in support vehicle. Gave greater sense of achievement once finished

What did you think of your group leader?

Excellent leader. Organised, efficient and didnt bulls**t you if there were changes to plan. Always kept group informed and provided the encouragement to keep going when necessary. Ensured health and safety adhered to by all and  definitely made trip more enjoyable. 

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Dont go unless you have a decent standard of fitness for your own enjoyment's sake and that of the group. It would help to have some bike experience too

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The 'free day' should be spent in Essouira and not Maarrakech. It is infinitely better place to relax and wander around than Marrakech. The beach is nearby and its an added bonus of course. To make the trip more attractive this has to be considered by Exodus planners .

I was going to give this trip 4 stars but to be honest I couldn't think of any reason why it doesn't deserve 5 stars as it was an amazing holiday. This was my first holiday of this type and it really was ace, I was lucky enough to be there with 7 other guests that were pretty awesome, we all got on pretty well and had a bit of friendly banter between us all. I basiically put this down as a holiday of a lifetime and I will be doing more exodus trips based on how much fun I had on this one.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

On day 2 we had a 26 kilometer climb followed by a 30 kilometer decent, tbh I was a bit worried about the climb as I had never done anything like that before, I didn't need to be worried, the way I felt standing next to the tizi n test pass sign is unexplainable, a true highlight of my life so far, and the realization that I am cabable of that was off the chart. This is just one inspirational moment, there were lots. :)

What did you think of your group leader?

Our group leader, Ritchie was ace, he loves cycling and bikes so this wasn't just a job to him, he was very passionate about cycling, would spend his lunch breaks doing running repairs to keep the bikes in ship shape condition. He was also very good at inspiring you to get the best out of yourself, if you were happy taking in the scenery, he would leave you to it but if you like to push yourself out of your comfort zone and work on your technique and fitness he would see this and give you endless hints and tips and get you to challenge yourself. he even had a few of us having a little drafting race with each other that left us all buzzing like never before :) I would also like to add that we met the atlas decent leader Liz one night and her enthusiasm matched Ritchie's, it is very clear these guys just love what they do.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I would say just do it. I took my own shoes and pedals but don't feel this is necessary, it was my personal preference but plenty of people did it with trainers just the same. There's not to much I can say about the required fitness for the trip, it is a cycling holiday after all but peice of mind can be had with the knowledge that you can sit in a backup vehicle any time, but, and this is a big but, the fitter you are then you are more likely to get to the checkpoint first which gives you the first choice of the ace Moroccan chocolate bars.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I agree with the other reviews about making Essauira the rest day, this is an intriguing walled city with alot of character, it's a bit off the standard tourist trail so it's a more unusual place to say you have stayed. (I loved the hotel here) It also has great waves and loads of watersports available at local hire, a couple of us did some body boarding there. I have to mention the 2 back up vehicle drivers, those guys were great, they were responsible for lunch, which was very tasty. They would also go out of there way to help you any way they could, from helping with bags to topping up water bottles. They both deserve alot more credit than I can put into words.

Beautiful Atlas mountain scenary. Hard cycling ascents rewarded with exhilarating descents. Comfortable Riads. Tajine. Tajine. Tajine. Beer.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Day three and an ascent up to Tizi n'Test Pass at 2100m. A seemingly never-ending series of switchback climbs to our goal. Hard work at the challenging end of the 'moderate to challenging' trip tag. It was worth it though, views over the anti-atlas mountains and across a stunning decent that literally went on for miles with barely a car in sight. All topped off by an evening in a luxourious Riad complete with swimming pool and peacocks.

What did you think of your group leader?

The group leader, Richard, was a key part of the success of the trip. He clearly identified goals for each stage of the cycle and personally ensured that eveyone excelled their expectations as to how hard they could push themselves cycling enjoyably.  This ensured everyone could get through the trip and that the group remained cohesive.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Don't put your inside peddle down when you go around a fast corner. What goes down must go up.  Taking your own cleats for the bikes certainly helps.

There can't be a more fun way to see the mountains than on a bike. It was a lot less scary on the bikes than in the support vans!

The Mountains (Atlas and anit-Atlas) are breathtaking in more ways that one and it was a real treat to be able to ride up them and down them for a week! A really tough ride for me personally - so many relentless climbs but great to get really fit to prepare for it

Andy McKee was a very effiicent, friendly and capable leader. He ensured everyone was looked after and acted as an excellent motivation to get us all up the hills. Well done Andy!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Yes! If you are going on the February trip prepare to be cold ! I needed fingered gloves, body warmers, ear covers, neck covers and full length warm leggings are essential. Its cold in the mountains and some mornings we were riding over frozen puddles which can illustrate the starting out temperature. Also the hotel on Day 2 has no heating at all so ensure you have hats and gloves and a warm coat for that one. Hotels after Day 2 improve immensley, including a palace and the most stunning central hotel in Essouria. Also be prepared for lack of alcohol (most nights this is not available at all) and very healthy eating - fantastic way to get fit!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Mountain roads are about 80% ok with tarmac but some stretches are very gravelly and badly maintianed. I was considering taking my carbon fibre road bike and was not advised against this when speaking to the UK office but it would have been snapped on the first day if I had taken it. Glad I didnt. I would really recommend this trip if you want to see the best of Morocco.

A great chance to see spectacular mountain and coastal landscapes, away from the crowds of the big towns, and generally on quiet roads with little traffic apart from the occasional donkey!The trip gave us a good taster for Morocco, and left us wanting to come back again to discover more of the country.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

We had the chance to talk to members of a womens' cooperative near Essaouira, who were producing products from Argan oil.  This provided them with a level of independence unusual in the traditionally male dominated Moroccan society.

What did you think of your group leader?

Andy, our leader, made sure that at all times, all members of the group were ok, and quickly sorted out any issues relating to bikes or accommodation.  

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

This was my second trip with Exodus, and both times my expectations have been exceeded-if you have not used Exodus before, do so soon-you will have a great time, and many memories to treasure.

This was a great way to discover a new country, enjoy a week of sunshine in the middle of the British winter, and get a bit fitter too! (not to mention the sheer pleasure of that final dismount after a long day in the saddle!)

Wow, what a trip! Being a newbie to Morocco, group tours, AND cycle trips I had no idea what to expect, and being honest I was a bit daunted by it all. But this didn't last long..As soon as we were off on the bikes I loved every minute of it. We had a great group and Andy, the group leader, knew his stuff and put us all at ease. While the cycling is quite demanding at times, it is well worth it and the scenery was so inspiring that you can almost forget about it and just look forward to what spectacular view greats you round the next corner. It's definitely the best way to see Morocco and it is very difficult to fault the trip at all. I will definitely be signing up for another cycling trip very soon!

For me, this was doing the Tizi n Test pass..20k ascent on roads bending in and around the mountains, and to reach the top and see the road back down from where we came on one side..and an awesome view across the next valley, where we were to decend, on the other. Andy was great as our group leader - very calm and organised, and put up with our constant questions on the routes. It added to our holiday that he is so taken with Morocco and was keen to pass this on to us. He was also a good motivator in terms of the cycling..never would I have thought I would be racing up mountains!

My first ever cycling holiday and first time with Exodus.  Really enjoyed the experience despite coming down with a persistent stomach  bug the night before I joined the group.  True that it's good to have some cycling miles in your legs if you're new to touring.  I'd done a bit of training with local cycle groups and was glad I had - having said that I'm still not a fast cyclist so you don't need to be super-fit.  

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Getting to the top of the 21km climb and then sailing down the 30km descent the other side!  And meeting some great people in the group

What did you think of your group leader?

Unfortunately I probably gave him my stomach bug - he was certainly unwell for a few days - so coped admirably in the circumstances.  Good to have a second person on hand as a safety net.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Build a good bit of cycle fitness if you've not been in the saddle for years.  Realise that there are quite a few transfers involved in this trip - and there's not much space in the back of the vehicles!  Also that there are no toilet facilities for 90% of the time whilst you're out on the road - just in case you're squeamish about that sort of thing.  The support vehicle is your safety net - I got in it the first day when I was feeling really poorly.  So with that guarantee, I'd say go for it!

A fantastic bike trip through the Atlas Mountains, each day of biking was more beautiful than the day before.  I really fell in love with Morocco on this trip, and the biking routes were unbelievable.  Lots of great rides through isolated areas and tiny villages - the mountains and the desert were all amazing to see.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

All of the hill climbs!  Going down the Tizi-n-Test pass was terrifying but I was happy to make it through.  The long descent on day three or four into Tarfroute was awesome.

What did you think of your group leader?

Alex was a great group leader - very helpful, fun, and on top of everything.  No complaints!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There are a lot of long climbs on this - it would definitely have been helpful to practice hill climbs ahead of time.  Bring some warm clothes even in April.  Bring waterproof gear in case it rains!  I was nervous ahead of time about being on really busy roads, but for the most part there was not much traffic where we were riding, which was great.  When there is traffic, be careful, because there are some crazy drivers.  The first hotel we stayed in after leaving Marrakech was a bit bare bones, but they are all better after that.  Sometimes there is no hot water, but it's Morocco, so you just have to accept that, and most of the time there was hot water.

Really, really great trip!  My first group biking trip and I'm already planning the next one.

Very good experience, great landscape and good organization. 

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Descending the Atlas Montains, Berber tea and hospitaly, seeing the compassion in our driver's eyes.  

What did you think of your group leader?

He is great, very organized and precise. 

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be physically prepared for very high ascendings!

I wish we had more sightseeing and stops at historical places along the way.

Cycling in the most fabulous of landscapes, surrounded by incredibly friendly Moroccans and with a great group.  I want to give the trip 4.5 stars. 

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The fourth day of cycling was fabulous.  It seemed to go on and on.  Very slight inclines followed by endless gentle descents through the most dramatic scenery you can imagine.  Brilliant fun.

What did you think of your group leader?

Richie Rocked!  Everything was run with military precision and he was authoritative without being bossy.   Top marks.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

100% of our trip had a tummy bug of varying degrees during the week – be prepared! Even in October it was a little cool in the evenings therefore warm clothing is a must.  We were lucky to escape a storm in the mountains so I’d also recommend a wet weather riding outfit. Breakfast is Bread and Jam/Honey.  Bring your own if you want anything more nutritious.  Take a pack of felt pens for the children in the mountains.  I still regret only having a biro and bag of Maltezers to give to the little lad wearing an oversized suit (think artful dodger)  There is a possibility one of our group had money stolen from an unlocked suitcase at one of the hotels.  Take a suitcase lock.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

As others have already mentioned – the free day should be spent in Essaouira!   6 days on the trot is hard going therefore a gap after 5 days would have been most welcome.   I found the shopkeepers far friendlier in Essaouira and would have much preferred to spend my Dirhams at their counters.  (You only realise this after you’ve been badgered and harassed in Marrakech).

An excellent trip with plenty of cycling and good company. Get it booked!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

My favourite days were cycling from Tafraoute and then the following day from Imouzzer. The scenery was just spectacular and at times, you felt like you had the whole valley to yourself. Ok I confess to enjoying the climb to Tizi'n'Test as well!

What did you think of your group leader?

Richie was just great. There were safety checks and cycling tips. He was excellent at making sure the whole group were briefed about the day ahead. Thanks to Richie and the local guides, the whole trip ran extremely smoothly.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be prepared to be woken about 5ish each day by the early morning call to prayer. Take long sleeves for the evening and for cycling late on in the day.  Be prepared for alcohol deprivation!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The only disappointment on this trip was the food. Any more chicken tagine and I would have sprouted feathers! You wont starve though and there are plenty of snack stops during the day to sample several of the tasty Moroccan chocolate bars. There are a couple of transfers missed off the trip notes. I would have liked to maybe miss out a transfer and finished the trip by cycling into Essaouira and arriving at the Ocean though not sure if this is possible logistically.
