  • Internationale groepsreis Austrian Lakes Self-Guided Activities Fabulous scenery and a choice of activities including walking or cycling
    • All continental breakfasts and evening meals included. Austria is renowned for its wholesome, robust food and you will be thankful for this after a hard day’s skiing. Typically, you will be set up for the day by a breakfast of cold meats and cheeses, along with the traditional bread, jam and coffee. Austrians tend to eat heartily at lunchtime and less in the evenings; you will be well catered for at dinner. Local specialities include Wiener schnitzel (breaded veal cutlet) and various stews of beef and pork. Dumplings, potatoes or noodles are all regular accompaniments along with vegetables in a style similar to English cooking. Desserts are often fruit based - such as Apfelstrudel - or cream pastries. Rehrucken is a traditional chocolate and almond cream cake On average Austrians, drink twice as much coffee as beer. There are many different types to choose from, particularly in the larger towns and cities and are often drunk in specialist coffee houses, known locally as a Kaffeehaus. It is often served in large cups and finished off with a healthy dose of whipped cream. Austrian wines tend to be sweet white varieties, similar to German Mosel wines. The three best-known areas for producing white wines are Krems, Klosterneuburg and Gumpoldskirchen. The main red wine producing area is Voslau. Of course Austria is better known for its beer and you will find a wide variety of local brews. The best known are Gösser and Augustiner Brau and come in light or dark forms.

  • Internationale groepsreis Catalonia (Catalunya) Activities Combine a stay at the beach with a choice of gentle walking and cycling routes for an active family holiday.
    • All breakfasts and 3 evening meals included. Traditional Spanish food such as /paella/, /chorizo/ and /albondigas/ (meatballs) can be found on just about every menu in Catalunya, but don’t forget to try the regional specialities too. Local cuisine features plenty of fish, including world-renowned anchovies from L’Escala, and /botifarras/ (black pudding) from the mountains. A good starter might be /Pan Catal//á//n/ /(pa amb tom//à//quet),/ this is lightly toasted bread, drizzled with olive oil and topped with tomatoes and garlic. Thanks to its geography, the region has developed “Sea and Mountain” - /mar y muntana/ cuisine, combining chicken with lobster, or rabbit with prawns. Fruits are used as well, such as roasted chicken and figs, or pheasant and grapes.   Dishes are rich and hearty, however, it is not just a meat-based cuisine, there are plenty of vegetable options. Catalan dishes also rely heavily on sauces: /Sofrito/ is an onion and tomato sauce, /Picada/ is made from dried fruits, nuts and herbs, /Sanfaina/ is a sauce of fried peppers, aubergines, onions and tomatoes and /Romesco/ is made with tomatoes, peppers, nuts and garlic. Most menus are written in both Castilian and Catalan and sometimes in English too, but you may find a pocket dictionary useful in the more remote places.

  • Internationale groepsreis Cuban Highlights Ride Experience the real Cuba on two wheels
    • 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches and 4 dinners are included, allowing the option to try some local restaurants on the other evenings. We provide basic packed lunches during the day and there are plenty of water and fruit refreshment stops. 3 litres of water per person is included on cycling days. You may wish to bring some of your own energy snacks, as food shops, cafes and restaurants are scarce in many of the rural areas we visit. Cuba is not renowned for its culinary excellence (although it is improving). Food can sometimes be relatively unexciting and expensive - in no small part due to the long trade embargo implemented by the US. Vegetarians will find the food choice limited. Meals will be more varied for everyone in Havana and seafood is available on the coast. We recommend that you allow CUC 20 to CUC 30 pp per day for the lunches and evening meals on the days where food is not included. If you need more bottled water than provided, it is available for approx. CUC 1.50 per bottle.

  • Internationale groepsreis Cycle Guatemala, Honduras & El Salvador Cycle three Central American countries, starting and finishing in Antigua
    • All breakfasts are included throughout the trip. Restaurant stops for lunch and dinner are selected throughout the itinerary to allow you to try out good quality local cuisine. In Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, expect to see rice and beans as one of the main staples on the menu!  For Guatemala, the hand-made tortilla is ubiquitous and delicious. Due to the proximity with Mexico, food can be spicy, and choices such as chiles rellenos, tamales, tacos, burritos etc are often found on menus. Indigenous regions feature many dishes with turkey, such as “kakik”, a turkey stew. The Caribbean region has “tapado” - a seafood stew cooked with coconut milk. Antigua is very cosmopolitan - Italian, French, Mexican, Thai, Indian and Chinese restaurants are all on hand. For Honduras, our stop in Copan offers a wide variety of restaurants (similar to Antigua in Guatemala). The typical Honduran plate is the “Plato Tipico”, a combination of beef, fried plantain, beans, rice, cabbage salad and a piece of salty local cheese, The “baleada” is a common snack: a flour tortilla filled with beans, cheese and sour cream. For El Salvador, definitely try the famous “pupusas”, thick hand formed tortillas with the centre filled with beans, cheese or a combinaton of the two, always accompanied by “curtido”, a spicy  salsa to add on top. Again, the “Plato Tipico” is always on hand. There are plenty of local beers to try in all three countries, with prices ranging from USD 1 to USD 3. Gallo in Guatemala, Salvavidas in Honduras and Pilsener in El Salvador are all great lager beers perfect for the tropical climate.

  • Internationale groepsreis Cycle Indochina & Angkor Cycle through 3 countries from Thailand to Vietnam
    • All breakfasts, 1 lunch and 1 dinner are included. The food on this trip is a real highlight for many. Southeast Asian cuisine is known for its abundance of freshly prepared dishes with strong aromatic flavours. There is a focus on herbs and citrus to ensure each dish packs a punch; chilli does feature highly too but is easily avoided if desired. Typically most dishes will come with rice and many are often served in a banana leaf with a variety of dips and herbs served separately. The three countries visited ensure a different culinary experience every time you cross the border; ensure you try the freshly made Pad Thai noodles from the street stalls of Bangkok, the fish amok curry in Cambodia for a creamy coconut-based fragrant curry and the Banh Xeo (huge sizzling pancakes) found in Vietnam cannot be missed! Western food is readily available almost everywhere except in the Mekong Delta region. Vegetarians are well catered for but please inform us before departure of any special dietary requests. Please note that the availability of certain specialized products for restricted diets, e.g. gluten-free or dairy-free, is minimal or non-existent and we strongly recommend you bring these specialised dietary items from home. You may find it beneficial to bring some 'cycling snacks' with you from home if you have high energy bars or gels that you like to use during a ride. For those who wish to contribute, a kitty is normally arranged (see extra expenses) - fresh fruit, nuts, biscuits and local snacks are all provided from the snack kitty along with drinks and electrolyte powders.
